Brothers

The other night we were out back working in the garden when JP found some worms in the dirt. Both boys were curious to see them, but Jack quickly became nervous and was keeping his distance. Not one to pass up an opportunity to tease, JP threw a worm at Jack who did not find it funny at all. Ryan, on the other hand was more than willing to hold a worm and even attempt to eat it when JP told him to taste it!



It got me thinking how different both boys are when it comes to certain things...

Ryan is always willing to try new foods and usually eats more than Jack at every meal. He loves scrambled eggs for breakfast and I think Jack has only tried them once or twice in his life, and only because I made him. Ryan loves to brush his teeth--well, hold his toothbrush and suck all the toothpaste off, but it's so funny to me because Jack has always hated toothpaste so it's been a struggle of trying different kinds and forcing him to let us brush his teeth. I guess there's a pattern here of Ryan not being as picky when it comes to the taste of things.

They both know how to push each other's buttons and while they play well together some of the time, it's usually a lot of fighting because Ryan's wearing Jack's shoes or Jack is playing with Ryan's toys, and on and on. Ryan has quite the temper and throws more fits than I remember Jack doing at this age. If he feels wronged about something, he'll start swinging his arms and yelling, then maybe fall on the ground and get his whole body in on the flailing. You can usually reason with him easily, but you can tell he's going to be very stubborn.

It's no secret Jack loves him some TV time, but Ryan has zero interest in any cartoons or movies so far. Aside from that hobby though, he loves to try and do whatever Jack is doing and he's a big copycat. I love when Jack is excited about something and tries to get Ryan excited too even though he doesn't always understand what the big deal is. Like the other day, Jack really wanted to go to the library and when it was almost time to leave he kept explaining to Ryan that he could pick some books and did he want to get one book or two and did he want one about balls since he loves balls... Ryan just gave him a blank stare, but if Jack ever asks if he wants a popsicle, they both run to the freezer and start jumping up and down together. I love that they have their differences and it's fun watching them as brothers and they grow up together.
